It is ok,. if you use code and/or icons from other
OpenSource-projects.
But if you hear, that there is something not legal, then I think, you
have to delete the illigal parts (code or icons) so fast as possible.
My appologies, I had forgotten you had highlighted this to us in the past.
I can assure you that this icon wasn't taken from Vista, it was added to our
codebase well before Vista was released. Although I don't recall the exact
source (it should really have been noted in the commit, but was missed), it
was one of the free icon projects with a GPL compatable licence.
As you can probably imagine, we don't have the resource to check everything
which we take from other projects, we have to accept their claims on the
legality of the resources they supply. I would normally go back to the
source on such claims and discuss it with them, however as the source of
this was lost, it was better to just remove it without question. The
CrystalXP icon you linked to does look like an obvious source and rather
suspicious.
But I believe, that there comes the time, where your
audit
http://www.reactos.org/wiki/index.php/Audit wil be ended and the
Microsofts notepad icon is still part of ReactOS.
It has been changed in r27788.
This isn't an ideal change as it uses the notepad++ icon which we don't want
to conflict with, so if anyone has any suggestions of a GPL compatible
notepad icons, please let us know.
Thanks,
Ged.
