without modifier: "ä" (correct)
with shift: "à" (correct)
with caps lock: "{" (shoulf be "Ä")
with caps lock & shift: "Ä" (Should be "À")
with alt gr: "{" (correct)

and here's what I get with the control key. (it behaves exactly the way caps lock should behave)
with control: Ä (should not be anything)
with control & shift: À (should not be anything)
