Why that? It's actually the opposite :-P

The "latest-*" directories on most FTP Servers (also Mozilla's) are just
symlinks to the real directories for each version. If a new version is
released, the symlink is updated, so the old link will be dead.
As long as we specify the exact version in the links, they will always work
unless the file is really deleted from the server.
