I just did some digging around, and this issue was introduced somewhere between 20902 and 20911. Alex was working on the kernel heavily at the time, and there are several intertwined commmits IIRC. I just tested 20902 with both kqemu (and -kernel-kqemu) and it installed fine, and ran as well as I remember it did. It was noticably faster.
