Yes, that might be true (partly :)). But it works fine on cygwin.

There -is- an experimental version of Git for MinGW, but it was less stable when I tried it last (about a year ago).
I'm trying to use this one now - seems to work, however a problem with cr/lf seems to still exist, need to experiment more with autocrlf setting. Default setting to "true" didn't seem to work very well (there is some modified files in my freshly cloned repo)
