Hi all
We're moving from CVS to SVN (Subversion) and here's the plan:
* A two week testing period starts now! Please play around with the new setup and report any bugs to Casper Hornstrup (chorns@reactos.com). You will also need to email Casper for him to create an account for you. Your SVN username must be the same as your CVS username for auditability.
* On the 30th of December 2004 our existing CVS repository will be set to read-only and imported into Subversion (removing anything done during the test phase in SVN).
* On the 1st of January 2005 we will be using SVN for day-to-day source control!
A wiki page describing how to use the new SVN system is here: http://mok.lvcm.com/cgi-bin/reactos/roswiki?Subversion
Thanks to Casper for all his hard work in bringing SVN online and to Rex for maintaining CVS for so many years!
Cheers Jason

And here's the new tree structure that we (the devs on IRC) have mutually agreed to, with much compromise on every camp. We would appreciate the input of people who don't hang around, but are still very active and part of the Project (ie Hartmut, Eric, etc).
http://mok.lvcm.com/cgi-bin/reactos/roswiki?New_Tree_Structure
Please try to be considerate, it wasn't easy getting so many people to agree, and many of us still have reservations.
Best regards, Alex Ionescu
Don't have time to hop on irc, i have to get to bed BUT i believe the control panels should be moved to /reactos/base/applications/cpl or something similar.
Goodnight all. Richard

I love the proposed layout. I don't want to see the cpl applets moved to applications.
Thanks Steven

Don't you think it's a little too late to ask for comments if you already made a decision on IRC? This should have been discussed on the mailing-list _only_!
Please try to be considerate, it wasn't easy getting so many people to agree, and many of us still have reservations.
I can accept this structure but I don't really like it. IMO, the structure is too deep, for example the lib/win32 directory doesn't make sense to me. And I would like to move the static libraries to the lib directory and keep all DLLs (including .kbd and .cpl files) in a new dll directory. This way, our build system wouldn't need to process the lib directory three times (1st run: Build static libraries. 2nd run: Build import libraries. 3rd run: Build DLLs.)

We have not made a decision, we are still waiting for input.

This was perfect input. lib/win32 is because we want to have lib/<subsys> in the future. As for static libraries, they are already in the /lib/static directory now...I don't understand what you meant by moving them. Your suggestion to move DLLs to a dll directory doesn't seem bad at all, I don't know why you have the impression we wouldn't listen. So to everyone reading the ML, is anyone objecting to this?
Really Eric, the stuff is on a WIKI, whose whole point is to be editable. Nobody took any decisions and is leaving anyone out of anything.

Hi,
I'm missing the current reactos/apps/utils/*.* and reactos/apps/tests/*.* tree in the new structure. It seems that someone has removed the reactos/apps/tests/*.* tree from cvs!! I agree with the new structure, if the archives are moved and old revisions are not lost. I would like it, if the library section is split in dlls and static libraries. The static library section should be split in a generic part (independent of the mode), in a kernel mode only part and a user mode only part. The generic part can be included into kernel and user mode libraries. The mixed part (rosrtl) must be removed in the near future.

Is there an easy way to migrate a CVS tree to a SVN one ? I already know I can do a CVS diff with my existing tree, but I don't know SVN and therefore there could be another method.

You want to transfer your local changes in your CVS working copy to a Subversion working copy? I only know of two methods. One is to commit your changes to CVS and then wait for the migration to happen, and then checkout a Subversion working copy. The other is to use cvs diff and GNU patch.

Hi!
Isn't it possible to use the same tree with CVS and SVN at the same time and just commit changes to both at the same time?
