Hi,
I am interested to work on reactos developement. I want to take my work on reactos as a credit in my university. I spoke toAleksey Bragin (Fireball) regarding this. He asked me to mail to the developer mailing list. I need some concrete work to work for like five months or more so that I can show to professor to get his acceptance. My skills involve mostly on developing .I am mostly a C++ programmer with some experience in assembly language. I have some prior experience on filesystems and kernel but mostly linux. I have some experience on windows drivers too. By the way I am a masters student in computer science from US.
Thanks & Regards, sudhir. .

Hi, We have a lot of job to be done, so you can choose the area you wish. Here you can find some differents ideas about what we need: http://www.reactos.org/wiki/CFI Printing support would be nice, IMO.
Can anyone try to enlighten this guy in his way of helping us?

i was thinking in NTFS support :P (yes, i mean to create a free and open source NTFS driver for ReactOS) but it needs a working cc before, i guess and probably its a >>5 months work

I second that, a NTFS driver would be very much appreciated. But indeed we need to complete IFS support in the kernel, including CC.
I was told someone is working on CC right now. I also will need CC and any IFS related support working to run windows over our kernel, so Ill also be working on it soon.
Who is working on CC and how is it going?

I don't think an NTFS driver would fit for that request as it will require a lot of time and knowledge, anyway, Arty is working on a CC/MM rewrite, you can check out the branch here: svn://svn.reactos.org/reactos/branches/arty-newcc

Ged and me are planning NTFS support using NTFS-3g library plus fastfat_new driver I am developing. Getting basic NTFS support will be as easy as hooking ntfs-3g lib instead of FullFAT lib.
NTFS is very important after getting base Win32/kernel stable to get real world usage.

Actually, do you think it's feasible for sudhir to contribute to the fastfat_new IFS driver? One possible project for him would be to complete hooking up the FullFAT lib to fastfat_new, such that we can move to the NTFS sooner.
Sudhir, if this interests you, you might want to take a look at http://svn.reactos.org/svn/reactos/trunk/reactos/drivers/filesystems/fastfat.... For an introduction to developing for ReactOS, please see http://www.reactos.org/wiki/Development_Introduction and http://www.reactos.org/wiki/Building_ReactOS .

Thanks Gabriel for the info on the new CC branch.
We should not assume beforehand what someone that we don't know yet can or can't do. He's who can tell if it fits his interest and abilities or not.
BTW in his introduction Sudhir said he has some experience with linux kernel and filesystems, and windows drivers, that's not a little thing.
I just saw Aleksey's post. Great to know ntfs is on the way!

Just bouncing again the question. Can we create a list of possible medium tasks to be done in 5 months so this guy(or other IT guys) can choose among them? I can say (from my unknowledge),i.e, Printing support but i really dont know if that could take 5 months or 5 years, or if there is the proper Backend to have it working(or if there are currently hacks, or unimplemented things that we should solve first before going to Printing Support). You devs know better than anyone your own areas, so maybe each of you can point him to help in a part of it. Or maybe Aleksey as Coordinator (and having a global overview of current situation) can point him to a possible list. Btw, and after this guy demand i think we should try to have medium feasible tasks in our CFI (or in Wiki) so if anyone wants to help,he will find directly a task. It´s impossible for an outsider to know ReactOS needs when (maybe) we dont know which are or how to split them in feasible tasks.
This is my list from my unknowledge: 1)Creating support(Com-ole?) for explorer-new.exe 2)Reviewing our USBhub.sys or our USBPort.sys. 3)Backend for Printing Support 4)Or if we have 3) having Printing support.
Please devs, could you elaborate better my suggestions and giving new ones from your point of view?So we can send directly an email to this Guy with the options? Thanks
