I think our problem is because we are using GAS and NASM to assemble the various assembly files. Oughtn't we standardise on NASM? Why not?

My question is why nasm and not gas. Gas can handle both assembly syntaxes right? Why do we need a extra tool if this is the case?

You could be right. Unfortunately gas differs between versions which is why I can't compile fastinterlck.S with binutils 2.15.90.0.2. Hence my frustration.
Pardon me if I'm wrong, but isn't it possible to use both at the same time? (Eg by choosing another file extension for files to be compiled by nasm)
