It seems that as of revision 17811,
GNU ld version 2.15.90 20040222 is too old.
Upgrade your binutils if you have that version.

Can you please clarify which version is required.

The wiki states binutils-2.15.94-20050118-1.tar.gz (but this is not listed
on www.mingw.org)

mingw.org download page lists current as binutils-2.15.91-20040904-1.tar.gz
and candidate as binutils-2.16.91-20050827-1.tar.gz

Latest version of binutils can be found here, which is 2.16.1

But that is source only version, I am looking for a mingw pre-compiled
version to run on windows.
