In my 19792, I have a working dhcp client, and can access the cdrom drive, under vmware.. I haven't had a chance to try Firefox.
I'm for a freeze, but against a release at this time.
I think a freeze would lead directly onto a release as all the critical bugs should be fixed in the freeze period.
What's happening with this?
IIRC, either WD calls for a trunk freeze, or Brandon branches for a release. Neither have happened yet ??
I think we should progress in some way or we'll never see 0.3.0

At the moment, it looks like the next release will be 0.2.9. I this is the case, I personally think we should branch now or maybe in a week. But for 0.3.0 I think we should "clean up" the trunk i.e. WaxDragon should call for a feature freeze and we should fix all bugs and work very hard on the translations, as 0.3.0 is one of our major releases and will be reviewed by a lot of magazines (if we tell them about this release...), so it should be one of our best releases.

0.3.0 needs to have a "Spit 'n' Polished" look. Users don't see what's underneath, they see what's on top, i.e. the UI elements. Having a Default Wallpaper wouldn't be too bad of a start on this.
The Trunk needs a massive Bug-Hunt, at the moment. I installed r19899, and I could see several glaring discrepencies that a user would pick up on.

Next week I have finals and wont have much time. I suggested to Wax that we either do it soon(meaning today or tomorrow) or not until Dec 16th when I get done with school. He then said that he didnt think it was quite ready for a release yet and didnt want it to fall around Christmas time(because people get busy I'm guessing). So... where this all stands I don't know. Maybe even skip this one and do 0.2.9 in 3 more months and maybe that time it will be 0.3.0?

Having 0.2.9 3 months away will do the opposite of help. You need semi-regular releases, to keep the users aware of ReactOS' existance, and to keep their interest

I actually proposed a similar system a while back on the ML, but some didn't like it. Although I do agree, having incremental releases would be good, even if said releases wern't much more than glorified Nightly Builds ;)

But one of the main processes in releasing is stabalising the branch. These fixes are also committed to HEAD. Although there are quite a few bugs now they will all be removed before the final release following our method of Feature Freeze, Code Freeze, Release. The Wiki states that the code will not be released until it's ready, thus if we branch now, we don't finalise until the TC is happy all the bugs are fixed, even if that takes a month.
Having a trunk freeze and then doing a branch (with the corresponding freezes) seems to be defeating the object of doing the branch.
I thought we decided on 'branch every 2 months, whatever the state of HEAD'. But I can't seem to find anything in the wiki.
So... where this all stands I don't know. Maybe even skip this one and do 0.2.9 in 3 more months and maybe that time it will be 0.3.0?
Waiting 3 more months goes against the unwritten 'release every few months' statement.
Can a few other people chip in with their thoughts?
From: Ged Murphy
Can a few other people chip in with their thoughts?
I'd like to see a 2 monthly release cycle, meaning we should branch soon. However, we voted "Once the testing coordinator (in consultation with the release engineer) signals that a release is to be made, tentative dates are set for all three stages and the release process begins." meaning that it's really up to WaxDragon and Brandon.
GvG
Today or tomorrow is fine by me, BUT IT'S NOT MY CALL. I was just saying that if we branch now the release will land on Christmas week.
