How can I build and install ReactOS on a new computer?
Can I install to a USB stick or to a 1.2 GB IDE hard drive in a USB 2.0 hard-drive enclosure?
Main hard drive is Western Digital Green 3 TB, GPT-partitioned.
I would have to build from FreeBSD or less likely NetBSD or Linux.
I downloaded the installation ISO for ReactOS 0.3.15, but it failed to boot, also failed to boot on an old computer.
I already have subversion (svn), built from FreeBSD ports.

You can find ready-to-use builds of recent SVN revisions at: https://www.reactos.org/getbuilds
If you don't see builds for the latest, use the arrows to go back until you find one that has files.
You can NOT install ReactOS on a USB hard drive, though.
If you do want to build from source regardless, you should look at RosBE, although I'm not sure if it works well in FreeBSD, since I build from Windows.

Hi, RosBE 2.1 for linux.... First you need to know what version of gcc is used. If it is 4.8.x it might not build.

Hi! Look at http://jira.reactos.org/browse/ROSBE-37 try to follow my not too informative directions of how to update RosBE to a newer system distribution.

I downloaded and burned the installation CD image for 0.3.15, but it
failed to boot. Can you also have a look at the nightly builds (http://www.reactos.org/getbuilds ) to see whether they can boot or not ?
Hermès.
I tried and got: General Error SQL ERROR [ mysqli ]
Too many connections [1040]

AFAIK USB 3.0 and 2.0 are compatible, so your HDD may work :)
USB 3.0 hard drive is not accessible from USB 2.0 ports on motherboard but is accessible from USB 2.0 ports on a bracket that connects to USB 2.0 headers on motherboard.
But this hard drive is 3 TB with GPT.
Look at http://jira.reactos.org/browse/ROSBE-37 try to follow my not too informative directions of how to update RosBE to a newer system distribution.
FreeBSD ports include subversion, GCC, mingw with GCC 4.7.2, cmake 2.8.11.2, ninja 1.4.0, but I might still want to see how these tools are integrated in the RosBE.
I don't really want to burn CDs that would quickly become outdated.
I'd rather use USB stick and be able to rewrite/update..
