I think so, ODF is a ZIP file (with different extensions) that
contain multiple XML files. I think putting an XML file within a zip
or a tar.gz file would be a great way to develop a new application
protocol stearing away from binary executables to text based
executables. One way to do this is by maybe adding different schemas
in the XML file to allow access to different DLLs located on the
system side. Actions can be added to different buttons and labels by
integrating Javascript, VBscript, C#, Python, TCL, etc, code within
that XML file or a script folder within the ZIP file.
I will tell you this idea isn't the first experience i have had with
this type of programming. If you check out
www.bindows.net the
concept really shines through. The power of Javascript can only go so
far though. XML is a wonderful way to allow young developers to show
off their programming skills. There are so many technologies that can
be incorporated such as SVG and XMPP. Wouldn't it be cool to have a
100% text based application that handles instant messaging. Couple
that with something like XMLFO and there you go a PDF creator. The
ideas are unlimited...

ReactOS should have some form of XML standard. I also think ROS
should have
OpenDOC implimented in the core text prosessing aplications. i.e.
winepad.
wordpad clone and more.

XML is actively becoming part of technology and
programming. Every
major development company has embraced some form of XML in one
product or another. I was wondering if ReactOS would be
interested in
developing some form of application to handle XML-based
applications.
These applications would be written in XML and bundled in a ZIP file
much like the ODF formats that OpenOffice 2.0 is using. XML
applications would be allowed to communicate with some processing
application protocols and functions. I think something like this
would be a great feature that would quickly allow novice programmers
to quickly develop applications for ReactOS and share them on the
website. Think of it, no compilation time. That would be great.
I will try to write a proof-of-concept application for Windows XP
and
2000 for trial and testing.
My main question is: If something like this is wanted/needed/or if
ReactOS members finds interesting would ReactOS think about
supporting it in the first production release. Which is still far
off, I would imagine.
