Map files

Hi.
 
I'd like to know if we need to generate .map files in the new build system.
It seems we have better options available now than we used to.

option to build them.

Me too, but more specifically do you *need* the build system to generate 
all of them for you? Or is it sufficient to generate them by hand on an 
as-needed basis?

Usually I build all. If I do not get a crash, I do not need any map
file. ;-)
I would like it if I can enable or disable the build of all map files.
