I'm sorry if this would a wrong place to post this, but since I'm trying the ReactOS uxtheme.dll, I figured this would be fine.
I've compiled today's SVN, and I noticed that ReactOS had a uxtheme.dll (didn't know that before :P). Well, as a try, I went and put it on a Windows XP Professional machine (no service pack, and the Microsoft uxtheme.dll is un-patched). When I rebooted with the ReactOS DLL, Windows XP freezes at the welcome screen, the start up sound doesn't even play.
So I'm wondering if uxtheme.dll isn't complete yet or if it's already known to have problems.
Here is the info that i know(think?): Thomas ported/imported uxtheme.dll from Wine. So it is as complete as their is. It doesnt do much, if anything AFAIK. It functionailty in ROS is disabled. Thomas is on vacation(?) right now and will be back in 2 weeks.

According to Wine Weekly and the latest CVS drop notes there has been a fair bit of development on uxtheme in the WineHQ tree in the last month or so. I'd assume these changes haven't been merged into the reactos uxtheme yet, so it is probably still bare bones.
Cheers Derek

Thanks, I'll look further into the WineHQ uxtheme.dll (though it seems it's compiled as an ELF linked against WINE, just like the rest :p). Well, if it doesn't work on the real WinXP, oh well... I figured it'd be a better solution to use a GPL uxtheme than to keep playing cat-and-mouse with Microsoft keep restricting uxtheme.dll to only their msstyles.

It is unlikely that uxtheme will work 100% on real windows anyway because of the hooks it uses to do things like non-client-area themeing.

That has nothing to do with uxtheme per se. It's just a special service which sets user32 hooks, which use _ordinary uxtheme functions_.

Actually, no. microsoft uxtheme imports RegisterUserApiHook and UnregisterUserApiHook. The evidence I have suggests that uxtheme uses these to hook certain USER32.DLL API calls (and probobly windows message processing somewhere too).
Mike, try this uxtheme.dll, it's ours synced to winehq. I guantee nothing other than it built without error. When I tried this one under XP, it booted to the welcome screen, but was extremely slow.
/me Shrugs
