create some start menu entries for notepad, regedit and winefile
Do we really need/want the winefile link on the desktop? Especially since it is also present in the start menu now. If I recall correctly, the Command Prompt was put on the desktop 'cause at the time it was the only viable way to start programs, I think maybe even the Command Prompt link could go from the desktop now.

If you want, you can comment out the two desktop shell links. The start menu may be seen as enough. But I think the desktop is big enough to hold some convenient shortcuts. Just another thing, where there is no "correct way" per definition. Personally I never understood why MS removed all icons but the recycle bin from the default desktop in XP.

Martin
I think the icon for the command prompt should stay on the desktop, because at the moment it is an very often used application. And as Martin said, the desktop is big enough...

Hi Gé,
first of all, thank you for your reports from the LW London and for being there.
As, by design, ROS' goal is not disrupting the desktop experience users had from MS Windows flavours, there should be probably - Explorer - (Network) - IExplorer (or equivalent web explorer) - Recycle bin

Since when did an Icon take 800k of space? Most icons I've seen take between 1k and 3k of space.

I am not against icons. I was talking about ergonomics and previous usage of a product.
Perhaps, in the second stage setup, we could put a checkbox:
[ ] Add as many icons as you can on the desktop.

I dislike the winefile link, I think "My Computer" and "Command Prompt" are all this is needed.
