Hi,
Since it seems Emanuele has not made a post about this yet, maybe I should... I have been informed that due to time and focus reasons, Emanuele has decided to leave the project for an indeterminate time (forever?). I wish him the best of luck, and I thank him for his contributions to ReactOS.
I have also talked to Filip lately, and I have understood from him that he will also be gone for the next month or two.
Finally, in light of recent events, I feel that it's also best if I follow the example and take a break as well. I was undecided before, but the recent fight over the TC has convinced me that maybe this isn't the best place or time for me to apply my knowledge. I'm bit sick of being always the one in the middle of a fight. First I was blamed for always breaking the tree or causing incompatibilities, and now I'm blamed for project decisions as well. I really have too many things to worry about in life then to spend my life fighting all the time. I don't care that there are 40 people on IRC that agree with me, but when Jason and Ge, which are the two most influencial members of this project seem to be set against me, then I don't want to cause any more trouble.
Best regards, Alex Ionescu
Hi Alex
Yes, Emanuele informed me he had left the project. Hopefully this is not forever, hopefully your break is not forever too.
Perhaps the reason everyone on IRC agrees with you is because you're explaining yourself more thoroughly, and less aggressively, on IRC than in some of these emails.
Regards Jason

Email often makes people seem more aggressive, since on IRC, what can a response be perfectly crafted, of the length needed?

I agree, I also come off pretty bad on email sometimes ;) I don't have any problem with Alex.

I was undecided before, but the recent fight over the TC has convinced me that maybe this isn't the best place or time for me to apply my knowledge. Once again you misinterpret a criticism. Gé wasn't complaining about having a TC. Gé was pointing out that the decision of appointing a TC and the powers of that role wasn't reached through the project's established decision making process - voting. So it really doesn't matter if 40 people on IRC agree with you because only 35 people have the powers to make that decision - the project members with commit access. And they should all be given a chance to influence the wording of the TC role.

Well, I'm more or less new to this project, but I think this will be a big loss. You did, as far as I can rate it, great work and I can't find any mail that shows me, somebody doesn't like you. But sometimes a break is good, a lot of singers and artists did breaks and it was good for their career.
So, I hope you will come back someday and we will find some people who are skilled enough to 'replace' you in the meantime.
Greets,
David Hinz

Would you be so kind as to at least commit your work-in-progress code to a branch, please?
That doesn't seem to tie in with people leaving if they're not told that they are right.

I'm hoping Alex isn't so offended that he would throw away his hard work out of spite.

Mostly on IRC! That's not the way we've agreed to do things.

Well excuse me.

Look!
Did I vote for anything major in the past two years? Did I vote for SVN? Did I vote for xml? NO I did not. I adapted to the change. Yes I bitched my ass off about it in IRC, but I realize one thing. This project is changing, it is growing. I except this and move on.
Thanks, James

I told everyone that I was going to be in NYC on a work assignment for 4 months (I only return mid-November). As such I'm under a heavy workload. I should have turned over the PC position before I left, but thought it would be too unstable to do so at this point. I'm doing this now.

It's quite disrespectful to everone else in the project to make a private vote (if not very close to private) for a coordinator position. If you're in that inner circle, obviously you'll have no problem with it (although if you had any respect for the others you should!).

I was out of town too. About + 10 weeks. The TC was voted for in August.

I guess you will need to write Casper. He is in IRC 24/7 and monitoring everything.
There was no coup and no one is hiding anything from anyone. This was not done in private or in any disrespectful way. Like I posted, I never get to vote for things that change the structure of the Ros tree. Did I get any respect in a opportunity to vote on it? No I did not. I should be upset but I'm not. The changes made are good for Ros.
I really hope you understand what you are asking for. If we stick to this rigidness in voting. We will never get anything done.

You won't get rid of me that easily. ;-) I've got a job and a load of personal problems, but I'm still actively tracking ReactOS progress and sometimes doing small bug fixes as my time permits.
