What was the revision for the floppy driver that made it inoperative?
You told me on IRC. I did not take my notes to work.

Hi Jim,

In rev. 22764 the floppy works.

In 22765, trying to access the floppy will fail, from cmd it says invalid drive, meanwhile trying to access it 
from the run dialog you'll get an ERROR_GE_FAILURE A device attached to the system is not functioning.This happened with the old filesystem recogniser driver, but in rev. 26266 a new one has been introduced. With this one the problem is that
trying to access the floppy will lead you to:

Assertion '!(DiskByteOffset % DriveInfo->DiskGeometry.BytesPerSector)' failed at
drivers\storage\floppy\readwrite.c line 369

That is a good question. ATM when setup detects a problem with installing the
MBR, it will ask you to insert a floppy and make a boot disk. That does happen
on my test system since I have Linux on hda3 and M$ secondary partition on
hda2.

Most would say that floppy disk are on the way out of hardware  
design. But backwards compatibility will dictate a floppy disk to be  
at-least available. So I answered my own question.
