Hello, We still have the cash in the foundation account for the trademark paperwork. ($525) plus about a hundred in paypal donations not sent to the bank yet. Our lawyer and I have not compleated the paperwork (his slackness and mine) and I have not cut him a check.
Some of us would like to put the trademark filing on hold and donate the funds to the RedCross. I would like to have a vote on it among anyone that is a user, tester, developer, or random fan that has donated to the project in the past. If there is a unanimous vote then I will transfer the funds that are in our bank account and whatever is in paypal to the RedCross. If there is a single objection then I will not.
I know this project did not get behind the tsunami relief effort (Which we should have) so even if there is a not a unanimous vote for reallocating the foundation funds then I ask that each of you personally donate if you can to the RedCross.
The United States Government has really fucked it up and the truth is not being reported on.
Thanks Steven

Charities always mess up with donations, I reserve my judgment for now though

Do not donate. Use the money on what they have been determined.

I believe that the funds should not go to the Hurricane Fund, but rather go to the Trademark, whilest putting up an ad on the main website page to have a hurricane fund that would be a seperate account from the trademark one. Maybe to an email account like: hurricane_fund@reactos.com.

What was told to those who donated the money to the foundation what for it will be used? Everyone can personally decide whether or not to donate money to the Red Cross, but on the other side those donating to ReactOS had a goal in mind when doing it, sorry if it sounds unpolite or "politically uncorrect", but this goal was most likely not the donation because of a(ny) catastrophe.
And by the way: the USA is the richest country on earth, it is a shame how they can spend alot of money into wars and into questionable measures for "homeland security" and on the other hand not help these people after a catastrophe in their *own* country. This is a shame!
Only my 2 cents,
Oliver
I care very much for what is going on, and I will donate myself later on (I find that charities totally mess up/corrupt donations, especially near the beginning....what did all those 9/11 billion dollars go to? 80% probably for "Administrative purposes"), but with all due respect, this is a choice that people must do on their own. I (and the other people) donated that money for furthering the *ReactOS cause*, not for helping the hurricane victims. You would be cheating those people in a way, and maybe even wasting money. Consider these cases:
1) Foo donated 50$ to ReactOS, and will now donate 250$ to relief funds. (ie: my case). You will now take Foo's ReactOS money and give it to the relief fund behind his back, even though he already donated and wanted these 50$ for ReactOS. 2) Foo lives in Bar, and really really doesn't care about the US or whatever its going through. Heck, nobody donated when Bar had the great 2140 earthquake! Foo gave 100$ to ReactOS, and would be really pissed to see it go to those "evil americans". 3) Foo doesn't like to donate unless he knows where the money goes. Foo was happy that ReactOS was totally direct about where his specific donation would go to, so he made a leap of trust. Foo now finds out that we are diverting the money for something else (maybe Foo would even mind if the money were diverted to pay for a new server, even more so towards a totally different cause).
Best regards, Alex Ionescu

Ditto. They have donated the money for a particular purpose, it is irresponsible and possibly illegal to redirect it like that. The Red Cross begs people to send money to the "national disaster relief fund" instead of "hurricane katrina victims", because if donated to the later, and the have extra money, that money can *never* be spent legally.
Hello, OK Thanks for your votes. I am not responding to any individual messages as I understand reasons for decisions one way or another. Thats why I said we could only do it if a vote was unanimous.
I have a todo list of Foundation and ReactOS things that I am working your money will go to those purposes. A few of us bounced around the idea on IRC and I agree the legal ground is questionable which is why I said they only way I thought we could do it was with a unanimous vote. (In fact even if the vote had been unanimous I would have emailed everyone that has sent money again just to be sure).
- Trademark Filing - Build Boxen for CIS - Any Legal matters that come up
Are the things I am working on. In that order.
We now return to normally scheduled hacking.
Thanks Steven

I think you have to be very careful with decisions like this. Either you start donating at every disaster anywhere on Earth, or none at all. Please don't show a US-bias.

I think it is better to secure the registered trade mark ASAP.

Hi,
I don't know if I'm allowed to post here, but I totally agree with Alex. People donated the money for the sole purpose of reactos getting a trademark registration. Now, unless you get _every_ single person that donated money to agree for the funds to be transfered to the red cross, this would be like scamming or screwing them over.
Just my thoughts, Ibrahim Damlaj
Give any Money to the Red +, beware of how it's being spent.
Personally, I think the money in the main repository should be kept for ROS, with the members making an individual decision on whether to contribute their own money.
