The bin -taste will be dropped some time. But it is still usable. It's intended to be startet from a naked DOS in realMode. Thus you need at least a FAT16/32 partition to extract that and a DOS-Disk. It should work with freedos.org, too. Boot it, cd reactos (whrere you extracted) run boot.bat
That's very bad, boot.bat and friends are depreciated as they may cause various problems - hope someone will remove these files from the repository soon.

The only formula offered to me (for starting ReactOS) has been shot down, even though I did not understand it completely anyway. It soundes like Robert was saying that I need to boot with a DOS disk, be it M$ (Micro-expensive-$oft) or freeDOS, before I can run ReactOS.
Thomas says (regarding the only way offered to me) that it is very bad and may cause various problems, but does not offer an alternative. What kinds of problems? What alternatives are there? My original question was to request the location of a HOWTO.
I would like to see this OS in action. Further, I would like to try to run some DOS and Windows programs, just to find out where ReactOS is, and how far it has left to go. Screenshots are o.k., but I would like to play with it and see what I can (and cannot) do.
