well, my main reason is that i use linux for servers in schools, but there is a vast amount of specialist educational software that needs to run on desktop windows, on fairly low spec machines.
Okay, you need a slim operating system which can run windows applications. (but a new kernel ?)
what i want is something i can plug in as a direct, free replacement for windows that looks the same, works the same, and does not need high spec (expensive) machines to cope with a bloaty os + subsystem.
Why has underlying OS and a subsystem to be expensive ?
