Greetings,
I heard the unfortunate news about Google's decision regarding your community's application for Google Summer of Code 2009. ReactOS was one of the many interesting projects that I hoped to be accepted.
Do any of the people who were planning on being mentors have interest in mentoring a student with Haiku in a joint project?
One project in mind, is mmu_man's usb webcam drivers. There is intention for this driver to be developed in such a way that it encourages developer collaboration between other OS's, such as AROS, AmigaOS, MorphOS, and of course ReactOS + Haiku.
For multiple reasons, this would be very good for ReactOS, both in the eyes of Google and in terms of furthering ReactOS's codebase. First and foremost, your codebase would be receiving additional drivers, which in my experience is always a good thing(tm). Your community would receive additional positive exposure. Regarding Google, this participation would display to them ReactOS's dedication to participating in GSoC, through any available avenue. On top of that, the notion of not merely porting a pre-existing driver, but actually having developers from different OS's working with each other at the same time to produce and enhance the driver is a wonderful achievement that should be encouraged.
So, I encourage anyone who interested to reply by any means :) I'm usually available online as mmadia on irc.freenode.net
Thank you.

One idea that I had not SoC related but good for Haiku in general was a port of Wine. If perhaps you were able to get a SoC student to sign on for that or maybe convince the Wine guys to list it. It would help all projects involved by creating a larger pool of developers that were working on a set of common libraries.
Thanks
