I would like to know if freeloader of Reactos
overwrite
and it manages the loading of NT4.
Assuming you are talking about the instalation from CD (even bacause, if
installed mannualy, you can organise your hard disk rather freely), it
depends on the partition type (primary/logical), it's flags (active or
not) and the filesystem where NTLDR (and the boot sector code) is
installed (I think the phisical position on the disk doesn't matter at
all)... in one word, it depends on the organisation of the hard disk...
If NTLDR is installed on a partition to which the ROS Setup can write
(Fat16 or 32), then it adds an entry to the boot.ini file redirecting
the boot process to the file called BOOTSECT.ROS, that has been written
to the same partition. That files loads freeloader, which loads reactos.
If it doesn't find NTLDR (for example, it's on NTFS), then Setup will
install Freeloader normally (i.e.: write the DOS boot sector to the MBR
boot code (446 bytes), put freeldr.sys and freeldr.ini in the active
partition (which probably is the one to which ROS was installed)). If
there's no active partition (or the setup can't write to it), I think it
puts Freeloader on the root of the reactos partition and tries to make
it the active one (if not possibli, then probably ROS will not boot!)
