Time is ticking, and the release isn't on sourceforge's list of new releases yet. Freshmeat needs to be notified, as well as osnews.com, slashdot.org, betanews.com. The webpage still says the latest release is 0.2.1. ----- Original Message ----- From: nick_journalsmailto:nick_journals@hotmail.com To: ros-kernel@reactos.commailto:ros-kernel@reactos.com ; ros-general@reactos.commailto:ros-general@reactos.com Sent: Tuesday, April 27, 2004 4:48 PM Subject: [ros-general] ReactOS 0.2.2 FINAL

It's already on osnews.com, slashdot rejects stories about ReactOS, don't know about betanews.com. Seems you are caching www.reactos.com somewhere, I can see the 0.2.2 announcement on our home page.

Yes they seem to not be able to understand that cloning windows is as logical as cloning Unix.
I have a major interview coming up that is worthy of being slashdotted that covers alot of the work we have done with WINE and ReactOS as well as the "why the hell do you want to clone Windows" discussion. It should be posted in a few days. Once it is up someone needs to submit it to slashdot.
Thanks Steven

I think ReactOS would finnally be recognized by slashdot if enough people were submitting the same information. It may simply be a stubborness to only post items that they belive are of interest to people. I would assume the best way to do this would be to independantly submit the news to both slashdot and newsforge. Don't just assume that someone else has already submitted, so just go ahead and submit it again and this way it will finally show up on the radar.
Another thing that may be interfering is that if the slashdot reviewers didn't think the news submission was dorky/nerdy or otherwise not up to their standard, they would most likely reject the article, even if the topic was something they would normally post about. If you have ever submitted a story once and later you see someone else made the posting for the same story, you can probably assume they probably would choose the best one out of a list.
Perhaps a general strategy could be formulated so we can secure a sufficient amount of attention.

Well, maybe we should just wait for the next big release. Imho, this release isn't much of news. I mean, $program runs, nice, but not very interesting (no pun intended, i'm not saying it isn't a great achievement). If tcp/ip works, and reactos is quite stable, now _that_'s news. Just wait for the next big thing to happen with ReactOS, and submit to slashdot again then, and then maybe from multiple independent people.

Someone needs to update Freshmeat.net, the screen shots there are over a year old. James
Does anyone notice the strange behavior of the file explorer? I'm sorry I haven't fully installed the rc's (shame on me) but it's very different, less usable than the csv builds.
Extra info: Vmware install from iso. Haven't yet installed vmware drivers.

Can it be that the Newlines are missing on the changelog?
