Hello, The web teams has requested that we purchase a software package to handle our forum discussion on the website. The purchase cost is $160
We have about $90 in paypal donated for misc needs and this seems like a good buy if we really need it. After our hack of the website this may be a good thing. I would like to have a vote up or down about the purchase. If the majority of the project supports this then once we reach the required amount we will purchase.
Please reply to me in private, the foundation or general lists only. Do not follow this thread on ros-dev.
Thanks Steven

I would actually recommend against using vB.
For $25 more, you could use Invision Power Board. vB only give you free upgrades for a year ($30 a year after the first), but with IPB, you'll get all future upgrades.
IPB also has a more Modular approach, so it can use additional site modules without manually editing PHP files via FTP.
Just my 0.02c..

I vote NO. I think that the SMF forum (http://www.simplemachines.org/) is the best forum software out there. And it's free. It seems like a waste to me to pay money for IMHO inferior software.

PhpBB gives an "Amateur" Impression to visitors, I suspect

PhpBB has had too many security holes in the past, and since reactos.com has already been hacked once, I think they want to minimize the risk, that this could happen a second time. About the amateur impression: I think PhpBB looks very bad, but you can change the look and feel, so that shouldn't be the problem.
I vote for Woltlab Burning Board (http://woltlab.info/index_en.php)

The vote seems to be a total no. We will stay with the free forum system.

I don't think, that the majority is against using a non free forum software, but nearly everybody thinks that we shouldn't spend that much money for something where we only get security updates for one year. That would be waste of money.
