My two cents:

Cause it was hacked through (some PHP exploit i
imagine), so unless PHP is updated or all that stuff
is patched (that needs time from someone willing to do
it)the forum will be down to prevent another hack.

Just what i supouse is happening from what i know
happened.

The phpbb forums wasn't updated as often as it should have been, thus it 
was open to a few exploits.

I would imagine the forums will be reinstated when the new website comes 
out, keeping a closer eye on updates in the future.

Sorry. The forum will not be up again until the new site starts. But
this will anyway not be long away.

Would the previous forum posts be restored when the
forum is restored, or would they be gone?
