First of all, thanks to all of you for all your work on ReactOS.
Secondly, why reinvent the wheel?
Why not simply assure that ReactOS is compatible with WindowBlinds?

I'm much more interested in ReactOS having Rock-Solid base functionality...
- Printing - Networking - Speed - Compatibility with Apps.
Rather than UI eye-candy.
That stuff can come later, or by using the many third party skinning apps for Windows.
Thanks!

Hi The focus is not on UI as u think we got a UI cordinator irc:mf That is working with other to make a better UI for reactos. And we devloper can constrate on devloping new stuff. We are foucr more with compatible by apps. and implement missing api or bugfixing api and devloping other part that is need it. To get more stable and compatiblity is same thing as implement more api that we are missing. We are fouct on networking but it take time getting it stable. See 0.3.0 roadmap what we are amin at for that release It is so much u want todo but it take time to write and if u want printer support start wrinting it for us. if u want more speed, try figout what u can optimze. But we are still in alpha, reactos own blitblt is faster that windows xp software blitblt even some hardware acclation blitblit. But if u install a graphic card drv, then the graphic will be faster. Then u got hardware accllartion of the graphic in reactos. Our Graphic card drv vbe2.0 does not using any hardware accltion more that provide direct access to graphic card then our win32k need doing all drawing it self (software mode), If u install drv for u graphic card the drv will take over some api in win32k and it call down to a hardware acclation function.

Since when has UI been eye-candy? When it comes to UI design, what you see is just the cream on the cake, there are layers of functionality under it.
Besides, we need solid base UI in case someone doesn't want windowsblinds. That's just bad practice (force someone to use certain third party apps). ROS is practically all about flexibility so such behaviour really doesn't fit the picture.
It's not like we have one developer who has to focus either on functionality or eye candy... Things progress side by side.
+like I have stated many many times before: One key factors of acceptance is likeability which basically means how functional we experience the UI before actually using it. Since acceptance plays a key factor in decisions it should not be overlooked as mere "cream on the cake". To me, that is blanant overlooking of basic psychology. Since we want to get as many user we can get and that way get as many dev's as possible the importance of UI looks becomes quite clear.

It's easier to implement our own fully customizable skin than try and implement all the functionality within explorer.exe to ensure windows blinds works correctly.

It's all part of the development process. As certain parts grow, so must others. Explorer.exe is no different and there are people who want to work on the interface, so why stop that. It has to be done at some time.
