I can't remember, now. But you gan gather this info from readmes of the
ext2-IFS for NT/2000.
It's essentially a asociation between Volume UIDs and Letters which
become created as \??\X:

actually, Windows 2000 persists mount points and drive letters
correctly. How does it do that I'm not sure. It also detects and handles
the removal of partitions, but not resizing or moving them
