Hi everyone.
Im new here. My name is Victor and im from São Paulo, Brazil. I´d like to develop/find/create icons, wallpapers, screensavers, help to create themes (if possible) and stuff like that.
I´ve tried to test ReactOS but since its only Fat (32) compatible I could not load it into my PC. :(
When reactOS will be NTFS compatible? Can I translate it to my native language?
Can I do(or try) some artwork for the project (or to promote it)? What do you guys need more?
NTFS is proprietary file system and may not be available under the GPL. So... I think the answer is no. But you can create a partition or use the VM Ware player and the VM Ware distro of ROS. On Feb 18, 2008, at 2:09 PM, Victor Westmann wrote:

have a look at the following page: http://www.reactos.org/en/download.html
Virtual Box ("vbox") >= v.1.5 is know to work (at least it worked some months ago in combination with ReactOS 0.3.1). Nevertheless for better compatibility (yes, even VM apps contain bugs) it may be wise to use either Qemu or VMware. If you want to try out vbox, you can download the reactos qemu download package and open the image using vbox.
btw. most of the questions have already been answered in either our mailing lists and more important for novice users, in our ReactOS forums: http://www.reactos.org/forum/

Why not have a Virtual File System support with ReactOS ? We can then garner the best of the advancements in file systems, whichever is most suitable.

Changing the subject a little bit...
I think It will be a great idea to promote the ReactOS platform as a great one for games/gamers!
Everyone knows that the best games are made to win32 platform... sooooooooooo they could use a free alternative.. a nice choice: ReactOS! heeheh.
Cheers.
Victor
There are some games running on ReactOS now, but we're constantly making improvements in that area. Right now, I wouldn't recommend it, but later on, definatly!

That would be great (I myself have this problem since I won Marvel Ultimate Alliance, this game don`t run in wine and I would never abandon Linux and install Windows just to play a game). The main problem is directX. The ReactX project is still at the begging and MS's DirectX installation doesn't work. Putting that to work should be a high priority task

Two questions about it: 1- How is hardware acceleration doing? What graphic cards are acellerated, etc 2- What can I do to help?

Hi Victor and welcome to ReactOS!
In general, I'd recommend you to join the #reactos IRC channel for getting help (see http://www.reactos.org/en/community_mailinglists.html). There are always >100 people online there, so you should get answers there faster than here on the mailing lists.
To answer your questions:
When reactOS will be NTFS compatible?
This is a frequently asked question and it's answered in detail here: http://www.reactos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2487. In the meantime, someone already started working on a ReactOS NTFS driver, but anyway the kernel is still not ready for it as described in the forum post.
Can I translate it to my native language?
Yes, this is possible.
As you come from Brazilia, I assume your native language is Brazilian Portuguese, right? We have a few Portuguese translators, but not as many as for other European languages, so we could really need some help here!
It's possible to translate parts of the code and also the Website to another language. If you want to translate the code, download the current trunk version using an SVN client (see http://www.reactos.org/wiki/index.php/Subversion), add your translations and then submit a patch with your translations (see http://www.reactos.org/wiki/index.php/Submitting_Patches). For translating the Website, please ask someone at #reactos-web if he can give you Translator membership for your account. Then you can easily edit all pages with your RosCMS account.
Can I do(or try) some artwork for the project (or to promote it)?
For all questions concerning artwork, please ask "mf" in the #reactos IRC channel. He does most of the graphical stuff so far.
Best regards,
Colin Finck
Colin,
hi. Thanks for the great help! I'll take some time in the weekend to read all of this with more details.
Im kinda embarassed to say but I dont know how to use IRC. I dont have a clue.
Where should I start?
Thanks,
Victor Westmann wrote:

First get an IRC Client. mIrc (http://www.mirc.com/) is probably the most common choice. If you already have an IM client like MirandaIM, you might also use that one to connect to irc. Then make a connection to the server (irc.freenode.net, port 6667) and join the channel #reactos.
Regards, Timo
Are there any user / developer groups from Brazil?
If not, i think we could organize one.
If you have interest in creating a brazilian (user / developer) group, please contact me.

Hi!
Deadmilkman wrote:

I don't know of any real "user groups", but you might ask Wagner Leandro Bueno Angelo (http://www.reactos.org/roscms/?page=user&sec=profil&sec2=1453) and Marcelo Zamperetti (http://www.reactos.org/roscms/?page=user&sec=profil&sec2=10061). They both contributed some Brazilian Portuguese translations for ReactOS in the past.
Another person you might ask is João Jerónimo (http://www.reactos.org/roscms/?page=user&sec=profil&sec2=9733). As far as I know, he is not from Brazil, but he is the Language Maintainer for the Portuguese part of the Website.
Best regards,
Colin
