Hi,
i want to try ReactOS on my real hd but i have the question, it can be load from lilo ?
It's not easy but yes it can be done as this is how I have it at home since Grub never works for me. Essentially my LILO boots freeldr.

do me a great favor, and paste your lilo.conf :-)

Actually here is how it is setup: Drive 1: Partition 1: Windows XP Professional (NTFS) Partition 2: Slackware Linux 10.x (ext3fs) Drive 2: Partition 1: ReactOS (used to be my shared drive between OSes) (FAT32) Partition 2: Extra ext3fs partition. One thing to notice here is that ReactOS is on my second hard drive (FAT32). This makes it a lot easier except that the BPB was WRONG on my second drive. Now to get this working I had to hack the fat32.asm so that the Freeloader installer (the one you run in XP) correctly writes the stuff to the second drive. By default it did not do this. Actually it turned out that one of the developers had this problem as well. I don't remember his name or irc handle but he made the changes to fat.asm and helped me with fat32.asm. He checked the fat.asm into CVS under the handle phreak. Hope this helps... - Devin
In my experience Grub works with freeloader (at least before i reinstalled grub and by accident erased the freeloader MBR). I am at work, but once at home i can get you my Grub configuration file.

Actually in this case I think it is not my config but some problem with my motherboard or the HPT IDE Raid chipset. I'm not using RAID but the chipset does require special circumstances.

Hi,
if your disks are not connected to the standard ide ports, you have to integrate the ide drivers in the boot cd. Look at http://www.reactos.com/wiki/index.php/Disk_and_SCSI_miniport_drivers. It may work.

It can not be loaded directly with lilo, but you can chainload it like you´d do with windows. Only problem is that 0.2.7 have a critical bug, that stop the install process of ReactOS, the developers are still working on the bug. I would recomend you to download the liveCD and run it in real software (no install, no bug).

Is it a bug or a functionality?
I've got GRUB on my mbr to boot other OSes (Linux, ...) So when i decided to install Reactos , i made a copy of my MBR and was prepared to boot on knoppix in order to backup it after the Reactos installation. But "hopefully" the mbr was not touch, and only the freeldr.sys and freeldr.ini was install on the hard drive apparently because of the bug you mentioned. After that I 've just had to add the correct entry in the menu.lst of grub to boot Reactos:
title ReactOS root (hd0,0) kernel /freeldr.sys
So for me, and I think for other people too, it is the best way Reactos can install itslef.
When you will correct the bug, can you had a third boot installation way (not MBR, not Floppy) that just install freeldr.sys and freeldr.ini on the hard drive, but does not touch the MBR?
I've yet ask that for 0.2.6.

We are probably not talking about the same bug... the installation hangs, COMPLETLY, without installing anything. Thats the bug i am talking about, tested in two computers (real hardware) with quite diferent compositions.

Does anyone knows how to install ReactOs with XOSL bootmanager?
XOSL is a free bootmanager, wich you easily can find with google :-) (first hit).
I've divided my HDD 0 in 4 partitions (0) XOSL, 32mb (1) Win XP (2) ReactOS (4) Data (i've more HDD's, but that's not relevant here). Windows was already installed, but now i'm not able to install ReactOs proberly into the (2) partition. Is there any trick to do this? XOSL starts, after the bios searched for the bootable options.
