IIRC windows sockets were based on BSD sockets.

I went through the forum and heard a lot of things about which browser
(mostly mozilla) should be used as the default for ROS.
Just my idea, but I think that we should use a modified version of the
Mozilla ActiveX control instead with a dummy browser placed on top.
There are 3 reasons why I think that this (even though it may be more
difficult) is probably the best choice in the long run.
-Programs that require IE will instead be redirected to use Mozilla's
rendering engine instead
-The dummy browser could store it's bookmarks in a similar manner to the
way IE does adding to the startbutton/bookmarks compatibility
-Still promotes OSS
Firebird and Mozilla are great and all, but if there isn't compatability
with the myriads of programs that want to call IE for some reason or
another ROS will be slower to be adopted
Hello,
I got an offer of a PHP web programmer via private email to help
developing the ReactOS web site:

I know, the current reactos home works quite well - just in
case there are some ideas for improvement.

I have seen that our dos VM is a bit on the weak side,
and since this is GPL, might be worth looking at. It's
allready written for win32.

But do you think its possible via a Windows filer driver? I guess I am
thinking about replacing the Linux PnP implementation and passing it
off to the Windows PnP Manager and then using Linux network cards and
such as a quick and dirty wrapper to get Linux driver support for us on
ReactOS.
Thanks

Uh, guys?
Just as a potential user...
If I want a Linux Filesystem (which is INCOMPREHENSIBLE to me), I'll use Linux.
You are created an Open Sourced Windows Compatible OS.
Stick with compatibility as the first thing. THEN, if you can do something
faster and better without breaking compatibility.... Then do it!
But, If I wanted Linux, I'm well served by hundreds of Distributions...
There is currently, not ONE Windows Compatibile Open Sourced OS.
And thanks for making one!
Al
Hello,
to make visible as a picture what has been discussed in the recent discussion about drive letters, in which way to mount them and eventual extension for new file system standards, I want to post a screenshot of the new ROS Explorer version.
I implemented display of NT object namespace. So you can now see the internals of NTDLL, where and how drive letters are mounted and much more. Even the registry can been seen as an integrated part of NT object namespace.
